Escaping the dreary gloom of clouds hanging over the lower regions of Chiemgau and Burghausen for a late October hike to Zwiesel.
Hiking Zwiesel from Jochberg always was one of my favorites for a quick “mountain getaway”. A little road winds up to a parking lot and trailhead at an elevation of about 1150m (3000ft), from Weissbach an der Alpenstrasse. About 2/3 up is a typical alpine hostel that offers simple, hearty dishes, some desserts, and beverages. The summit of Zwiesel can be reached within 45 minutes or so from there (depending on how full your belly is;-) and the reward are nice views both into the alps and into Chiemgau below.
Long after making these photos I discovered that I could merge some of them into panoramas. They’re in a much different style, and can be seen in this separate blog post: Mountain Panoramas from the Past.subscribe via email (the subscription form opens in a new browser window/tab). It's easy as pie! :-)
