The hike to Garnet Peak is rather short, and the only challenge is the sheer drop down into the desert on its eastern side (probably one of the most impressive ones in the Laguna Mountains) if you’re easily feeling vertigo.
I started at the Penny Pines trailhead to make the hike a little bit longer, incorporating a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail. Up at Garnet Peak, the wind was so strong and cold that I abandoned the idea to stay until sunset.
