A set of three images with the first signs of Autumn at Laguna Mountains’ Agua Dulce ravine. Fall colors are limited in San Diego County: at the lower elevations, only sycamores, willows and cottonwoods will change their color (and it’s not that spectacular, really), while Coast Live and Engelmann Oak are evergreen – they only lose their leaves to conserve water, when it’s too dry.
In higher elevations such as Laguna Mountains and Mount Palomar, one can find Black Oaks, and they put on a nice autumnal color display of yellow and orange before the leaves turn brown and fall. Fall colors are late here in Southern California – at the end of October, it’s merely starting, the first leaves start to show a little bit of color here and there – like a whisper…
