I’ve long been waiting for an opportunity to get a view of these mud hills from above in even light, so my choice for the Photo of the Month for January 2013 was an easy one – it’s one of the (many) photos of Carrizo Badlands seen from the Domelands.
The conditions were perfect – an overcast day after a rainy day in the desert made the light flat and even, without any hard contrasts. From above, the mud hills looked almost soft, like a cloth of silk spread out over more ragged structures. Maximizing the contrast brought out these incredible colors, and I am absolutely fascinated by the chaos of lines and shapes in this frame. Thanks for reading!
