Three “leftovers” from my first outing to Algodones Dunes, last year in July. These three photos were made along Ogilby Road and Highway 78 in Imperial County.
Maybe it’s just being familiar with the sights of Anza Borrego by now, but I had the feeling that the desert east of El Centro and the dunes was more barren, harder, forbidding. The dark brown bedrock of the aptly named Chocolate Mountains is fascinating. Had the dunes not been my ultimate goal, I would’ve spent more time there, even though wandering around in the sweltering heat of July and high moisture from passing monsoon storms would have limited any hiking to a relatively small radius around the safe haven of the car with its A/C. :)
