Lazy Desert afternoon (6 photos)

January 31st was a beautiful day to visit to the desert – it was overcast in San Diego, and the mountains to the east reliably block much of the clouds before they reach the desert (which lies even further east). The few clouds that make it over the mountains create an interesting play of light and shadow on the landscape.

Shuwen and I started late, and began the day with lunch in Borrego Springs. We took it really easy, not much hiking this time, just a little bit of road-tripping. After lunch we first stopped by at Clark Dry Lake (I posted a Small Set/Triptych from there a while ago) and watched our dog Toni go crazy on the mostly dry mud. She had so much fun running around!

Afterwards, I took Shuwen to Vista Del Malpais, which lies a little bit south of Fonts Point and is a less popular vista point for the Borrego Badlands, but equally amazing. We wandered a little bit north, towards Fonts Point, taking in the views, enjoying the clouds and wind, and watched a photographer who was doing a portrait session our there for a bit.

And we made photos, of course. :) My impressions are below, and have a look at Shuwen’s photos from Clark Dry Lake too, please.
