At last I’ve gotten around to evaluating and processing all the photos from my morning walk along a portion of Alisal Road/Alisal Creek near Solvang (one was my photo of the month for April).
These early morning outings always make me wish that the sun wouldn’t rise so quickly. Exposure times for these photos are still in the range of 1/4 to 3 seconds and wind moves everything that wants to move, so it’s not that easy to get a photo were everything that should be sharp is actually sharp.
And as soon as the sun is high enough for that “sweet spot” where everything in the canyon is still in shade, but exposure times get reasonably short, it’s almost over already too because the sun keeps rising, and soon reaches the canyon. Of course sunlight through trees is great and really pretty, but would result in photos entirely different from what I was looking for (not to mention the very challenging high contrasts it will produce).
