Surf & Pebbles (Triptych)

Leftovers from a morning visit to Tabletop Reef. The tide was high and waves were pounding the tide pools like I had not seen it before. I couldn’t even get close to where I normally make photos (well, at least not without getting a severe soaking – cameras and salt water don’t mix too well so I didn’t try).

Standing on the edge of the rocks though, I was able to point the camera almost straight down – sand in the spot below had been washed away entirely, and the surf washed over dark pebbles. Watching the fluid motion and patterns and shapes evolve and dissolve was quite mesmerizing. I made a number of short little sequences, hoping to catch the essence of what I found so fascinating.

This set of three works particularly well I think. Scroll down, or (if you’re at a desktop/laptop) click to open the sequence in the slideshow viewer.
