Soft twilight on sand dunes (color version of "Black Silk"), Algodones Dunes, California; July 2014.
Conditions were absolutely perfect when I visited Algodones Dunes in July. The area doesn’t see many visitors in Summer because of the high temperatures, and the dunes were in almost pristine condition. A monsoon storm had passed through an hour before, leaving the top 1/2″ of the sand wet and now baking in the sun, temporarily providing a relative hard surface to walk on. The sun (behind me in this photo) was partially blocked by the remaining clouds of the storm, tinting the dunes in warm and very flat evening light.
