It was time to head home on this last day of our Eastern Sierra Trip 2016. Needless to say, it’s always hard to say goodbye and so we delayed our departure a little bit, veering off the straight route home.
We hiked Little Lakes Valley before (in 2012 and in 2014) and skipped it this time in favor of other places that we hadn’t seen before, but on the way back we drove up on Rock Creek Road just to have a look.
The sun was just peeking above Wheeler Ridge and backlit a slope with Curl-leaf Mountain Mahogany (Cercocarpus ledifolius). It was perfect timing because these bushes all still had their curly, silvery seeds, glowing in the sunlight – it was simply too beautiful to pass…subscribe via email (the subscription form opens in a new browser window/tab).
