Blue Sky Ecological Reserve (5 photos)

Looking for nearby places to take walks with Toni we went to check out the Blue Sky Ecological Preserve in Poway, which lies just a 10 minute drive east of 4S Ranch, where Rancho Bernardo Road becomes Espola Road. After the first winter rains, the partially summer-dormant vegetation begins to come back to life, which leads to a strange mixture of fall colors and fresh green that is quite unusual to my eyes – fresh green in December!

We hiked on the Green Valley Truck Trail in the shade of oaks and then continued uphill, traversing the dam of Lake Ramona over two or three switchbacks, until we had a view of the lake – it wasn’t too impressive I have to say, the water level was relatively low and thus the lake was not visually appealing. Thankfully, it was partially overcast for the hike up so we didn’t regret the extra exercise too much. ;-)
