A first hike at Daley Ranch. We chose the northern entrance from Cougar Pass Road because it’s less developed and you’re on the trail immediately, instead of the paved road that continues from La Honda Drive at the south/western entrance.
After hiking through a beautiful oak hollow the trail continues uphill and we took the first left, onto the Engelmann Oak Trail, which climbs further up, mostly through open meadows and chaparral dotted with, you guessed that right, Engelmann Oaks. We then made a right and took the Bobcat Trail, which goes downhill again, and soon enters a shady ravine with more riparian vegetation (and plenty of Poison-oak growing in the shade at the foot of beautiful old oaks). The Bobcat Trail meets the main trail, completing the loop, and we hiked back to the staging area.
