This is the only “staged” photo in the series – knowing about the volatility of the bloom (flowers only last one night, they wilt in the morning) and the fact that this is a cultivated species that doesn’t grow naturally here, I was able to abandon my usual ethics and cut this particular flower to hold it against an exterior light to get it both backlit and isolated against a completely dark background.

  1. Beautiful flower photos! Somehow the white flower on the black background is still the best picture. Elegant! Leaves plenty rooms for imagination.
