Foggy Morning at Black Mountain

Impressions from a foggy morning in the chaparral hills near (little) Black Mountain in San Diego’s inland north county.

We were out for our morning walk with Toni just as the sun began to burn off the marine layer, revealing the landscape and the dry hills. This is what Southern California back country landscapes look like most of the year – rolling hills with dry golden grass and the hardy shrubs of the chaparral plant community, all waiting for next winter’s rains to begin another cycle of bloom and growth.
