Late morning hike at Torrey Pines (5 photos)

We took friends who were visiting San Diego from Germany to Torrey Pines for a late morning hike. The marine layer just burned off as we began our hike and the sun came out for one of those perfect Southern California “winter” days. Our friends were thrilled to escape the gloomy weather and January frost in Germany.

We parked at the street outside the preserve and hiked up to the Guy Fleming trail, then to Red Butte, and down to Razor Point. From there we took the connector trail to Yucca Point, and continued down to the beach from there. Walking barefoot in the sand in January on a mild day – what could be better?
