Mainau Floral Black & Whites

Our visit to Germany in late May/early June this year included a trip to the Mainau island at Lake Constance – it is famous for its gardens, which feature different flower shows throughout the seasons. We were late for the tulip season already unfortunately, but peony and roses were blooming and the fragrance of all the different flowers was incredible. One can easily spend an entire day on the island, wandering through the displays of flowers, the rose gardens, the arboretum area, the butterfly greenhouse, and more. They even have a wonderful alley of ancient Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia) trees from China.

Here are three close-ups of leaves and petals that I like very much:

Continuing the thoughts and considerations about my portfolio (in yesterday’s August summary post) somewhat, I do not consider myself much of a flower photographer. I never really got into macro photography either. And while I still have my “Floral” portfolio category online with a couple of galleries, I guess I’ll only keep the black & white and Desert Florals as more general galleries on the site in the long run. Mainly because I see myself making more photos like these in the future and adding and refining the galleries. Flower photos in color don’t seem to attractive to me anymore. I love black & white tones more than colors. :)
