This was an easy pick for the photo of the month. Even in August, we had some mornings with a dense marine layer at the coast. This is one in a series of images from La Jolla’s Hospital Point. I was almost done editing the images in my usual way (black & white) and publishing them when I switched back to color developing in Lightroom, and played with false colors a little bit.

Having processed the images for black & white entirely gave them an appearance in color that I would never have reached or gone for, had I chosen a color process to begin with. An interesting an enlightening experience.

August also saw some monsoon storms reaching the Peninsular Ranges at Laguna Mountains. I photographed some Black Oak trees in the clouds there, and paid a visit to my favorite Cottonwood tree  at Lake Henshaw as well. Needless to say, I’ve also been to Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve for some walks with Toni, and couldn’t resist making one or the other photo of the trees there – the “Gordian Oak” is one of my recent favorites. ;)
