Morning Hike to Bernardo Mountain

Friday morning my friend Fred and I were out early to hike Bernardo Mountain. He had never done it, and I wanted to get better photos for my presentation at the Sikes Adobe on April 15th.

I guess we timed it pretty well – the morning fog wasn’t too dense that day, and just as we reached the summit it began to burn off over Lake Hodges.

Here’s a first photo, I’ll update this post with more images later.

Bernardo Mountain looks really close, but the approach to the actual summit trail near Felicita Creek from either of the two trailheads (Sunset Trailhead, near Sikes Adobe, or the Piedras Pintadas Trailhead in Rancho Bernardo/Westwood) is about half of the total distance. That approach is easy walking, but the total hike adds up to about 8 miles round trip.
