Morning at Olmsted Point (9 photos)

I couldn’t resist stopping at Olmsted Point, albeit briefly, in the morning of my first day at Yosemite National Park, a place that I had been to before in 2012 (blog post: Olmsted Point), and which is easy to fall in love with.

My plans to be there for sunrise had been squashed by a rather sleepless night*. When sleep finally came, it was at a time which of course felt only minutes before my alarm went off at 5am. In the sleepy haze of my leaden tiredness I didn’t just snooze the alarm, but turned it off entirely. But at least I slept well after that. :-)

So by the time I got to Olmsted Point the sun was relatively high already. It was a clear day with blue sky and only a slight haze from wildfires. Having missed the light before sunrise and the long and deep shadows just after, I didn’t wander around too much – but even within just a few steps and yards to one side or the other, there are just too many photographic possibilities there. And so, as my memories of and fascination for the place are still fresh, the gallery below contains a rather generous and relaxed selection of nine images. :)

*) it’s one of the things I struggle with while acclimatizing to higher elevations. The town of Lee Vining, where I had a simple motel room, is at an elevation of 2067 m (6781 feet), compared to the ~180 m (600 ft) of our San Diego home.

Stay up to date with my blogposts and subscribe via email. It’s easy and you’ll never receive more than one post per day.
