In the “superbloom” of 2017 in Anza Borrego, there are places where it is hard to believe that this is the desert – like this meadow with solitary Blue Palo Verde trees (Parkinsonia florida aka Cercidium floridum) along DiGiorgio Road that is chock-full with California Dandelion, and one or the other Sand Verbena.

“Palo verde” (the genus Parkinsonia) means green stick – a reference to the green trunk and branches that perform photosynthesis) so the name “Blue Palo Verde” is a bit of a contradiction in itself if you want. ;-)
