I was in the area of San Diego’s harbor/embarcadero one morning after taking a friend to the airport. I met with Joseph once more, and we walked around with the cameras a little bit, ending up at the San Diego Convention Center. There was no major event going on, so the big hall was empty except for some tables and clerks passing through.
The ambience inside this vast space was quite excellent. In a way, it was a prototype for ambient music (which I’m very fond of) – a constant hum from the ventilation provided the “drone”, and each sound, every word, every step, even the clicking of the camera shutter, reverberated in a pleasant and intriguing way. And the fun I had capturing the structure with my wide angle lens was pretty unexpected, actually.
