On the way home from my visit to Algodones Dunes I just had to make the mandatory little detour to “my” Cottonwood tree at Lake Henshaw. With clouds from the tropical moisture that had brought monsoon storms to the desert, I figured that a “Summernight Edition” of the scene could be a nice addition to the series.
After capturing the stars and clouds I thought I might as well try some star trails, and set the camera to an exposure time of half an hour. Upon completion though, more clouds had moved in, making the stars pretty much invisible (except for the North star, which you can also see as the brightest star near the top left corner in the photo above). At home, I combined the stars & clouds in the sky above with the pasture in the foreground and the tree of the long exposure (to maximize detail quality).
