Looking at the pastures of Königsbachalm from the hiking trail towards Hinterbrand; the hazy blue wall in the background drops down into Königssee. I made this photo on the way back home from the so called “Kleine Reib’m” (little loop) hike, a popular activity in the mountain range east of Königssee that also marks the western part of Hagengebirge (Hagen range). There are actually two cows resting on the pasture, but they are barely visible.

The loop begins at Hinterbrand, where one has the option to use the cable car all the way up to Jenner (which shaves off quite a climb), includes the summit of Schneibstein, then descends to Seeleinsee (which is quite a funny name, the literal translation is “litte-lake lake”) via the wild Karst area between Windschartenkopf and Fagstein, then further down from the little lake to Königsbachalm, and back to Hinterbrand.
