Scripps Coastal Preserve (7 photos)

Some semi-long exposures from Scripps Coastal Preserve. This is my other “go to” beach for walks with Toni, though I don’t go there nearly as often as I go to Cardiff State Beach.

I’ve tried to work with the rocks that are half-buried in the sand a number of times, and finally the conditions where somewhat favorable both in terms of sky and tide. The tide has to be low here, but not too low, so that the surf gently bathes the rocks, creating nice movement, patterns and reflections in the sand. And when the tide is too high it will be hard to even get to this stretch of beach – it lies north of Scripps Pier.

I was in a playful mood when processing these images so I just took them wherever they wanted to go, without caring too much about a consistent look. Conditions just before sunset and into dusk are so varied, so in this case I think it is better to focus on the individual quality of each frame, rather than looking at them as a set.
