Sonntagshorn, October 2009 (10 photos)

Afternoon hike to Sonntagshorn in early October. Pleasant temperatures, some wispy high clouds, great views into the central alps. Sonntagshorn is the highest peak in the Chiemgau Alps. The border between Germany and Austria runs along its ridge. This was my fourth visit, I hiked it first in Summer 2007. I love the place and the views.

I usually hike Sonntagshorn from Heutal near Unken in Austria. It’s a little further to drive, but it shaves off not only 500m elevation change, but also the rather boring and long walk from Laubau to Hinterer Kraxenbach (for the approach from the German side, near Ruhpolding).
