Rising early isn’t my greatest strength but recently, I packed the photo backpack in the evening thinking that, if I’d wake up early, I would head out to nearby Lake Hodges, which is just a 10 minute drive, and walk up to “that hill” overlooking the lake.

Lake Hodges Dawn from Del Dios Highlands
With a slight delay, here are three more photos from the early morning hike to Del Dios Highlands with my photo-friend Lawrence. Unlike the previous images, these are a bit more “typical landscapes” that actually include a portion of the sky. ;)
More White Pelicans
The American white pelican (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos, which means “red-billed pelican”) is a winter visitor to Southern California (they breed in interior North America) and I think they’re funny, goofy and weirdly cute birds (perhaps seeing the cute in weirdness is something that comes with age, I don’t know).
Del Dios Highlands Dawn
Wednesday morning I was out for another sunrise photo activity. I know, I know – so many sunrises, lately. I don’t even recognize myself anymore either! ;)
Halloween Sunset, Bernardo Mountain
The skies looked promising yesterday in the late afternoon, so I went for a quick walk to “that new/old spot” overlooking Lake Hodges again. I knew that the direction probably wouldn’t be “perfect” for a sunset photo so this was more to still my curiosity.
