Impressions from an evening walk at South Cardiff State Beach (Seaside State Beach) to the tide pools at Tabletop Reef. I call these frequent visits “inspections” because this is one of my go-to places for walks with Toni, and it’s always fascinating to see how these tide pools change over the seasons.

Tabletop Reef Inspection (Dec 2011)
Impressions from a December walk at Seaside State Beach/South Cardiff State Beach to Tabletop Reef, during a winter low tide.
Oceanside Pier / Long Exposure
During a visit to Oceanside Pier, when the marine layer ate the sunset once more (and it’s kind of famous for doing that to photographers;-) I decided to go under the pier for a long exposure photo.
Blacks Beach Walk
Blacks Beach, or more accurately, South Torrey Pines State Beach, is one of the few stretches of coast in San Diego County where one can escape the always-present views of development along the coast – hiking down the path from the Glider Port, the fences soon disappear, and if it weren’t for other human beings and the occasional lifeguard truck, it would be a glimpse into what San Diego County’s coastline must have looked like 150-200 years ago.
Breaking Waves Triptych
Breaking wave at Torrey Pines State Beach, in afternoon backlight. There’s something about photographing waves – freezing them in motion with a high shutter speed is like stopping the flow of time. It’s these little things that keep photography pure magic.
