A behind-the-scenes look at the work that went into the creation of a single plant photo.
With a great spring underway and some more or less recent walks and hikes, new plant photos are pretty much inevitable 😅 so I compiled the latest additions to my archive page of Native Flowers & Plants in San Diego County into a little gallery.
Desert Holly (Atriplex hymenelytra plant portrait) is one of my favorite desert shrubs — it’s amazing how it finds a place to grow almost everywhere, and with its gray-green leaves, it’s also very photogenic I think!
A small collection of San Diego native plants with alternate color expressions (most of them white when they’re supposed to be blue/purple/violet).

As I’m (re) building my photo archive, and in particular the plant archives, I’m grouping the photos into trees, shrubs, vines, and herbs. I follow CalFlora’s classification, and herbs are usually the wildflowers. But there are some surprises in there.
