The first blog post of 2023 has the last photos I made in 2022 — in the morning of December 31st, we went for a walk at the beach. It was drizzly and overcast and I didn’t bring the big camera, but as usual, once there some things were too intriguing to not make a photo of them.
Triptych
These photos come in threes. Together, they’re more than just the sum of their parts.
Fantastic Lava Beds Triptych
I guess at first sight, this is a pretty strange title for a blog post, but rest assured that I’m not actually that full of myself — whether the triptych is truly fantastic is not for me to say! 😅 It is made from detail photos of the Fantastic Lava Beds though, which we saw when we hiked Cinder Cone. :)
Three Views of Water
This triptych of Staubfall and Fischbach came together as I’m working on “cleaning out the vaults” of 2008.
Canyon In A Canyon
Here is a small collage of photos that I made in April last year, during my “escapes from the pandemic”, when I went for solo hikes (maximum social distancing!) in the desert. Not a single person in sight, for hours and hours, just like I prefer it, pandemic or not. ;)
Badlands Aerial Triptych
Pointing the drone’s camera straight down supposedly leads to a “flat” image… except when the light nicely brings out the contours of a ragged and furrowed desert landscape, like on this overcast day at the end of December, about half an hour before sunset.
