Canyon Sin Nombre – Slot Canyon Triptych

I have hiked and photographed the slot canyons of Anza Borrego Desert State Park often, and they remain fascinating. The floods, earthquakes and rockfalls that shape them are rare, and so these slits in the desert landscape appear almost static. The only seasonal difference in them is the light and color, depending on the angle of the sun and the time of day. Stepping into these canyons is almost like stepping out of time.

Saguaro (Triptych)

The first stop of our March 2019 road trip was at Saguaro National Park East near Tucson, Arizona. Coming from the lush greenery of San Diego in spring, it was a rather strange place to us, but it’s impossible to not be amazed by the sheer size of the Saguaro cacti (Carnegiea gigantea), even after the long drive from San Diego.

Rock Collage

I love it when this happens: rock close-ups/abstracts spanning seven years come together in a single collage. It would be a bit of a stretch to call it “R/G/B” but the colors are distinct enough between the three photos – and they’re united by the orange in each of them.
