As the morning sun peeks above a boulder dotted hillside and its light fills the shadows and warms the air, the scent of Artemisia californica is released from the dry bushes by evaporating morning dew. An almost surreal smell at this time of the year, a future memory of spring perhaps, of how things will be again as our rainy season approaches.
