Burghausen is host to the annual gardening show/fair of the German state of Bavaria in 2004. (Landesgartenschau; German website). I made the four photos below at the booth of a local art school – they invited children of all ages to free painting activities on the weekends.
What happened here? Hundreds of kids together unintentionally created these abstract artworks. For the kids to paint, canvases were mounted on wooden backdrops. Once done, the kids’ artwork was removed, and a new, blank canvas was mounted. Over time, the paint that the kids used accumulated on the wooden backdrops. I found that highly attractive (especially image #3, where sunlight shone through trees, adding an extra layer with a play of light and shadows) and made photos of it with my compact camera.
I don’t know what will happen to these wooden backdrop walls once the show ends. I heard they will actually be sold.
