Wading Birds at Torrey Pines State Beach seen from atop the bluffs. Against the wet and patterned sand, they became almost abstract pieces of art.
I made these photos while taking a walk with my sister and brother in law from Germany, when they were visiting us in San Diego, in December 2013. There are actually two different kinds of birds in the photo, one is probably a Marbled Godwit, the other some kind of Dowitcher – it’s rather hard to tell in the photos, and I’m not very good at identifying birds I think.
Here is a vertical take:
Later on I was able to get relatively close to what I think is a Marbled Godwit – I guess they’re relatively used to the beaches being busy with people taking walks, and don’t mind being approached (the photo was made at only 120mm focal length).
