A peaceful morning in the shade of beautiful Coast Live Oaks. My photography and hiking companion Joe showed me this beautiful oak hollow at Hollenbeck Canyon – without his help, I would probably never have ventured there, a bit off the hiking route that Jerry Schad describes in his guide to hiking San Diego.
I quite like how the dark, yet detailed tree trunk in the front serves as an initial center of attention, leading up into the airy branches of the trees that form a slight arc or passage, darker but ultimately leading to the bright opening and the faintly visible chaparral hill to the right, in the distance.
This is not an HDR or otherwise blended image; it has been developed from a single exposure.
